The Cathedral of St. Thomas More is the Cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington as well as a vibrant multi-cultural parish with over 2,500 parishioners. Established in 1938, the Cathedral is considered the “Mother Church of the Diocese” and is the residence of the Bishop. The St. Thomas More Cathedral School was established in 1944. It is a co-educational elementary school (Pre-K through 8th) of approximately 400 students that is committed to the Catholic traditions of educational excellence and the service of faith. By 2012, the School had reached a point where existing facilities could no longer meet the needs of their vibrant academic community and the School commissioned cox graae + spack architects to assist with developing long-range planning solutions for their campus. The effort specifically focused on developing a long range master plan to accommodate their growing enrollment through a new, regulation sized gymnasium and / or new upper school, enlarged administration and support offices, existing building renovations (including universal accessibility), re-purposing existing facilities, site work / traffic improvements and integration of sustainable design strategies.
