The Langley School is an Independent day school in McLean, VA serving 480 students from Pre K - 8th grades. Founded upon a deep appreciation for childhood, and an abiding belief in the necessity and power of parent/teacher partnership, The Langley School offers an exceptional community and an individually attuned academic program. In 2003, cox graae + spack architects collaborated with the school to develop a Master Plan intended to guide campus facility growth. The plan was updated in 2010 to build on the goals of earlier efforts and designed to be a flexible tool for guiding decision making over the next five to ten years and as various component parts of the plan are implemented. The proposed plan is an exciting transformation that calls for phased reconstruction of much of the campus, including new buildings for the Primary School, Middle School and expansion of the Lower School. In addition, the plan envisions a new Administration Building, a Library/Media Center, an all-school lunchroom facility and a new campus entrance with reorganized vehicle circulation and parking. Replacement of the existing buildings with new facilities will better address issues of incorporating new technology infrastructure, long term maintenance costs, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and building code life-safety issues.
