Founded in 1952, the Norwood School is a co-educational day school with approximately 440 students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The Norwood campus is located on a 38 acre site in Bethesda Maryland. As one of the finest k-8 schools in the country, Norwood sets the bar high and is committed to educating the whole child – intellectually, socially, and ethically – in a student-centered, challenging, and nurturing environment. The School embarked on a Master Planning process in 2008 and received a Master Plan Special Exception from Montgomery County in February 2011. cox graae + spack architects was commissioned by the School to assist with evaluating the relevance of the current approved master plan, review of Norwood’s Montgomery County Special Exception, preparing a space utilization study, and making concept design recommendations for a more efficient use of the existing buildings and proposed additions. In addition, the Master Planning effort provided an updated analysis of existing spaces and the physical plant to determine program needs for the present and the future.
