The Washington Ballet and The Washington School of Ballet have been prominent local institutions since Mary Day founded both programs in the early 1950s. The new expansion was placed to the east of the property, forming an L-shaped addition to the original building. The expansion includes two fully-equipped professional dance studios with sprung floors, mirrors, locker room facilities and extra space for costume storage. The project received approvals from both the Historic Preservation Review Board and the Board of Zoning Adjustment.
