cox graae + spack architects designed a new 2-story single family residence set into a heavily wooded hillside site. The owner requested a design influenced by early Prairie School and Tuscan residences with expansive views to the forested site. The garage and octagonal library wings of the stucco and red tiled roof design frame a deeply recessed private main entrance off a gravel courtyard drive. The marble floored entry foyer steps down to a central family room with fireplace and tall windows overlooking the forest. Adjacent to the kitchen is a glass-enclosed breakfast room with doors to an outdoor pergola and deck. The second level contains a master suite, three bedrooms, and maid’s room.
