cox graae + spack architects designed an expansion for The Washington School of Ballet, located in the Cleveland Park Historic District of Washington DC. The Washington Ballet has been the area’s premier professional ballet company since it’s founding in the 1950’s and was in need of additional space for it’s company and school of dance. cox graae + spack architects designed an L-shaped addition behind the original building. While not built in an historic style, the spare lines and softly curved roof of the addition complement the existing architecture. The expansion includes two fully equipped professional dance studios with sprung floors, mirrors, locker room facilities and extra space for costume storage.
