Washington International School’s Tregaron campus is home to students grades 6-12 and is positioned on a unique six-acre wooded site in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of Washington, DC. cox graae + spack architects designed a new three-level building adjacent to the school’s soccer field. The new space includes a library and theater, with planned academic spaces to be completed in the final phase of a campus master plan for expansion. A black box theater and its support spaces were placed entirely below grade to preserve green space, while the library and classrooms were placed on the two floors above. The project included a complex, yearlong public approvals process, involving numerous DC agencies and local community groups.
