Dorothy Height Elementary School
Originally built in 1939 as a vocational school, Dorothy Height Elementary School has undergone several transformations before becoming part of DCPS in 2015. The school, which includes a historic 1925 annex and a disconnected drive aisle, faced safety concerns and didn’t meet modern educational standards. CGS Architects' thoughtful modernization connects the main building and annex with a two-story addition, preserving the buildings' historic character while addressing these issues. The design includes a new ADA-compliant entry, a double-height commons, and maximized outdoor spaces, ensuring the school provides a safe and functional environment for its students.
